PCCW Global and Etisalat expand cooperation

HKT (SEHK: 6823) – HONG KONG / DUBAI, March 7, 2013

PCCW Global, an operating division of HKT, Hong Kong’s premier telecommunications service provider, and Etisalat, a leading telecommunications corporation in the Middle East and Africa based in the United Arab Emirates, will enhance their cooperation to maximize large traffic capacity through Etisalat’s UAE-based SmartHub, subsequent to their signed MPLS and Ethernet interconnection agreements.

SmartHub is the transit hub for the Middle East region and some of the world’s most resilient and comprehensive intercontinental cable systems. It provides diverse connectivity by connecting the Regional Cable Network (RCN), The East African Marine System (TEAMS), India-Middle East-Western Europe (IMEWE), SeaMeWe3, SeaMeWe4, the TGN Gulf, and others.

PCCW Global will install a Point of Presence (PoP) in Smarthub to increase capacity cooperation with Etisalat in the region. Through this collaboration, PCCW Global and Etisalat will be able to serve customers worldwide on one of the region’s most extensive and secure networks.

Mr. Ali Amiri, Etisalat’s Executive Vice President, Carrier and Wholesale Services, said, "We are delighted to be working closely with PCCW Global to help them serve their customers in the region and globally. As a regional hub for communication services, Etisalat's Smarthub is the fastest growing hub in the area and will continue to attract large network and content providers with a broad portfolio of services and capacity options. We look forward to many more years of cooperation with PCCW Global, a dynamic and innovative global service provider."

Mr. Marc Halbfinger, PCCW Global’s Chief Executive Officer, said, “We look forward to this joint expansion with Etisalat and further enhancing our ability to deliver high quality communications services in the region. By creating a new Point of Presence in Smarthub, PCCW Global will be working closely with Etisalat in its commitment to high quality service. We are confident that this connectivity, combined with our recent interconnection arrangements for MPLS and Ethernet networks, will further expand our access to one of the most extensive terrestrial and submarine networks in the Middle East and bring about new and exciting opportunities for the further development of our network.”
